“Kill the regret before the purchase, not after it.” That’s the whole reason this site exists.

It started with a rental wall. Looking for storage that wouldn’t cost a security deposit, every article I found was a list of “7 great picks” — and almost none of them told me the one thing that mattered: how much weight it actually holds, which wall surfaces it works on, and what it leaves behind when you move out. Getting to a real decision meant bouncing between manufacturer spec sheets and dozens of reviews. Erabist exists so the next person doesn’t have to do that lap.

The Japanese name of this site means “the one who chooses” — not “the one who recommends.” The goal isn’t for me to pick for you; it’s to get you to the point where you can pick for your own room, wall, and budget.

How every article gets researched

• Primary sources first. Weight capacity, dimensions, supported wall types, and official “do not use” conditions come from manufacturer documentation — not from the seller’s marketing copy. When a number isn’t published, the article says “not published” rather than guessing
• Reviews read as patterns, not scores. I read both the praise and the complaints and classify what goes wrong repeatedly. Negative reviews are the main event: the goal is to figure out whether a failure is a product defect or a mismatch between the product and the wall it was put on
• Social posts for the field problems. Real installers on social media surface issues that neither spec sheets nor reviews mention
• Public rules for anything involving money. Deposits, wear-and-tear standards, labeling rules — those come from official guidance, not blogs

Five rules I don’t bend

1. No pretending to have tested it. Comparisons here are based on published specifications and review-trend research. Nothing is written as if I had the product in my hands when I didn’t
2. Not everything gets recommended. Every article states who each product is not for. Talking someone out of the wrong purchase is part of the job
3. Negatives stay visible — especially on products that earn a commission
4. No invented numbers. Unverifiable specs are labeled as such
5. Affiliate relationships are disclosed at the top of every article (disclosure)

Focus

Products chosen under constraints — rentals where you can’t drill, small rooms, and the fear of losing a deposit. Wall storage, desk setups, and household goods where the constraint is what makes choosing hard.
